Unpacking and packing again...

Well we made it home yesterday, a day later than expected. They canceled our flight from Puerto Vallarta to Houston on Thursday night. To make a long story short, the quickest way to get us home was to fly to Guadalajara, Mexico on Thursday night and then on to Houston and OKC on Friday. I was very apprehensive about staying the night in a Mexican city that i knew nothing about. But, I trusted my husband and thankfully everything was fine and we were home by noon yesterday. We left for Houston at 6:20 am yesterday and found out the next flight right after ours at 7:30 to Houston was canceled. Nonetheless, there were several people from our original flight who were still stuck. So, we are glad to be home!

So I spent the day doing laundry and yes you read my title correctly, we are packing again. We are leaving tomorrow right after morning services to take the juniors and seniors from our youth group to Dallas until Wednesday. We are working at a Food Bank during the day and then at night we are going to do some fun stuff like go to a Rangers game and Medieval Times. The kids really wanted to go to Medieval Times so Clay was able to find buy one get one free tickets! He is so good at finding deals. Along the same line, he got our hotel rooms at the Doubletree downtown for $40 a night through priceline.com. And, he somehow worked out "all you can eat seats" at the Rangers game so we don't have to pay for food. Amazing! We have a really great group of juniors and seniors in the youth group so we are really excited about the trip.

As for a pregnancy update I am 9 weeks today! It is crazy to think I found out so early and I am already 9 weeks. I am still feeling great. (Not to brag for those of you who had horrible sickness during pregnancy.) There have only been 2 mornings that I have been a little nauseous. I have been having the food aversion of a lot of things. I really haven't eaten much, I have been making myself eat when I am hungry because nothing sounds good. Battling my headaches has been the hardest part. I get migraines anyway but now I can't take my normal medicine. My doctor prescribed me a prescription medicine for headaches that she said is safe during pregnancy but it still makes me nervous to take it. I have only taken it twice when it was unbearable. The rest of the time I just try my best to deal with it. Any opinions from those who have been pregnant about taking the medicine?

Well I am off to have dinner with some girl friends tonight. Then I have got to get home and start packing again! I will be back on Wednesday, and since we aren't flying this time I can say that for sure!

PVR

I wanted to let you all know that we are having a great time in Puerto Vallarta. I can't believe our vacation is over half way over! Clay has been updating about our daily activites. He even started a "Randon Mexican of the Day" that is pretty funny. I have to admit that it was my idea but he is a lot goofier than I am so it sounds funnier coming from him. Check out his blog to see what we have been doing. Here are a couple of my favorite pictures of us from this week.

It has been fun to dress up each night for dinner. We have tried to take a picture each night and several of them have been good ones. Well we will be back late Thursday night. Hope you all are having a good week....

Ultrasound and Vacation...

We had our first ultrasound today. Everything went great. We could see the baby, but you couldn't tell what it was. We saw the heart beating really fast. The heart rate was 153 beats per minute! There was only one in there, which was good news to us. Our families have joked around so much about twins so now we won't have to think about that anymore. It is so crazy to actually see a baby inside of me and see the heartbeat. I mean I know I am really pregnant but seeing it made it so real! The technician confirmed the due date of February 1st.

We are leaving tomorrow morning to go to Puerto Vallarta for a week. Neither one of us have started packing yet but I do have all of the laundry done. Clay has his last church softball games tonight so I am sure we will both start packing after that. We will be back late next Thursday night. We have been so busy thinking about the baby and having appointments that we haven't thought much about our vacation. I am so excited to get away and spend a week with my husband! After all, it will probably be the last big vacation we take for awhile. :)

Ultrasound update...

I literally hit the "publish post" button on my last post when the phone rang and it was Dr. Wilks' nurse. She has me scheduled for an ultrasound Thursday at 1:30. Mine and Clay's family have been giving us a hard time about having twins since they run in my family. I asked the nurse if we would be able to tell that on the ultrasound and she said they would. Hopefully there's only one little one in there! I will let you know Thursday what we find out.

1st appointment...

Yesterday was my first pregnancy appointment. My OBGYN is Dr. Karen Wilks at Mercy. I LOVE her! Clay went with me and I was so thankful for that. My appointment was at 3:15 but she was called to an emergency C-section so we had to wait a little while. We actually were out of there by 4:30 which was pretty good considering the waiting room was full and she spent 20 minutes in the room with us answering questions. They wanted to do an ultrasound in the office to hear the heartbeat and for her to double check the due date, which officially is February 1st! Unfortunately my insurance will not allow it to be done in the office. For some strange reason I have to do it at Mercy hospital so a radiologist can read it. The nurse is going to try to get me in before we leave on vacation on Friday. We were kind of bummed not to have it done in the office, but we really weren't expecting them to do anything like that so it wasn't that big of a deal. It is so crazy to think that my baby already has a heartbeat!! About the due date, Clay's grandpa (who he lost last August and adored dearly) had a birthday on January 27th. My great-great grandpa (thanks Scott for the info) had a birthday on February 2nd. Those are the closest birthdays to the due date that we know. It is so nice to know the due date for sure.

On another note, I mentioned vacation earlier. Clay and I are leaving on Friday to go to Puerto Vallarta for a week. We are so excited! I had planned this several months ago, knowing that we would want to take a vacation before we started trying to have a baby. (Things just happened a little quicker than we thought!) The vacation was a surprise to Clay until I told him last week where we were going. He completely surprised me on our honeymoon so he wanted me to surprise him on this vacation. I HATE making decisions so it was not an easy task. I am very pleased with where we are going and I know we will have a great time!

Telling Clay.....

I thought I would share the story about how I told Clay about the pregnancy. I found out the Friday morning before Memorial Day. I had taken two HPTs and they were both positive. I immediately called my regular doctor and went in for a blood test. Clay was golfing that afternoon so I knew I had a couple of hours to figure out how to tell him. It has been an ongoing joke for a couple of months with a guy from church about when i was going to have a "bun in the oven." Well I looked online for some creative ways to tell a spouse, and sure enough this was the best I could come up with. I actually put a bun in the oven.

I told Clay to go look in the oven. He opened it up and said "why is there a bun in the oven?" Then he took the plate out and saw the tests.
He asked if it was real. (He really thought I would kid about that?) I had my camera out and I was taking pictures, but he was fixing to get in the shower. He wanted me to wait until after his shower so he could be in nice clothes for pictures. So I put the plate back in the oven. I guess that we were so overwhelmed with excitement that we forgot about the plate. That is only the beginning of the story. The next morning I woke up and decided to make blueberry muffins, so I set the oven to pre-heat. About 5 minutes later I smelled something burning and then remembered what was in the oven!

I hollered for Clay (he was still in bed). I was able to blow it out without having to use the fire extinguisher. Clay was not happy that I woke him up to such stupidity. If you know us, this part of the story won't surprise you at all! It sounds totally like something I would do. Anyway, a funny story to go in the baby book!

Padre vacation

I am spending a week on vacation this week with my mom and grandma. My grandma owns a time share and she is graciously sharing this week with me and my mom. This is the 2nd year we have made this trip together. Here are some pictures from the resort.

We have been lazy in the mornings, sleeping in and then laying on the beach most of the afternoon. We bought groceries when we got here so we make our own breakfast and lunch. We have been going out in the evening for dinner. Here is a picture of grandma eating raw oysters. UGH!!

Three generations at dinner
We are having a great time together. The week has flown by so fast. We only have two days left here so I better quit blogging and get to the beach!

A reason to start...

Thanks to Melody, I have been blog stalking for awhile now. It is such a great way to keep up with everyone. Clay started a blog a few weeks ago. He tried to get me to start one, but I didn't feel like I would have anything to write about. Well now I do......

A picture is worth a thousand words! We just found out about 2 weeks ago and told our family last week. It is too early to see my OBGYN, but I went to my regular doctor and had a blood test taken. Of course it came back positive! We are SO VERY excited! I know the next question will be "when are you due?" According to the internet my due date is somewhere between January 31st - February 8th. So like I said, I should have plenty to talk about. Welcome to my blog!
