Bless his heart....

My husband has worked hard over the past 24 hours.  Last evening he, and his friend Nick, cleared the furniture out of the nursery.  It is completely clean.  He then taped off the bedroom.  He worked this morning getting ready for our Trunk or Treat tomorrow night.  Then this afternoon he not only painted the nursery but changed out the outlets and fixtures, hung a ceiling fan, purchased and hung blinds.  As if that wasn't enough when I got home around 6pm from running errands he mentioned that he was ready to go with me to Target and register for baby items.  We had talked about doing it tonight but I just assumed that since he had done enough for one day we wouldn't.  Well we did!  Here is my updated to do list:

1) get the room completely cleaned out and ready to paint - check
2) get the room painted - check
3) bring in the crib
4) buy the other furniture
5) register at Target before my work shower - check
6) organize and put away the baby stuff I do have
7) organize winter maternity clothes and put away clothes I can't wear for the winter - check
8) sign up for birth class - check (We are signed up for class on Saturday December 6th from 9-5.  Clay is real excited about it being all day!  We have such a busy schedule that we thought that it would be easier to do it all in one day rather than drive to Mercy one night a week for 5 weeks.  Plus, that was all they had available so we really didn't have a choice.)
Clay has worked really hard!  I am so blessed to have a wonderful husband who is handy around the house and willing to take care of things.  He did this all without complaining!  He didn't have to change his bracelet.  I have the best husband in the world.  Thank you for your hard work!  I love you!

I'm back....

I feel MUCH better today.  I read online yesterday evening about the BRAT diet (bananas, rice, applesauce, and toast).  I started off eating a banana which settled fine so I tried rice and it went down fine also.  I then followed by having toast!  I was SO hungry!  I wish I would have read about that earlier.  Amanda, I saw that you commented on there about this, I didn't know about the yogurt too.  Anyway I am glad that I took the day off yesterday to recoup.  Today I am back to the normal pregnancy eating habits, starving every three hours.  It is amazing how you take your health for granted, until you get sick.  I'm glad to be back.  I have a GIGANTIC to do list.  This week Clay is going to paint the nursery so we can bring in the crib.  I am feeling so overwhelmed that I am at 6 1/2 months and I still have so much to do.  Here is my short term to do list.

1) get the room completely cleaned out and ready to paint
2) get the room painted
3) bring in the crib
4) buy the other furniture
5) register at Target before my work shower in 2 1/2 weeks
6) organize and put away the baby stuff I do have
7) organize winter maternity clothes and put away clothes I can't wear for the winter
8) sign up for birth class
I will stop there just so I don't overwhelm myself too much.  I'm off to fix dinner.  I would be interested to hear what you moms think about birth class.  Did you participate?  Would you suggest it?

Flu shot reaction?

Last Thursday I got a flu shot for the first time. I had debated on whether or not to get one but my OB insisted since I am due during prime flu season. I have always been worried about getting sick. On Friday we left with our youth group for our fall retreat. Yesterday I rode back early with one of Clay's friends b/c we had to get a girl back for cheer competition. I had eaten a big breakfast at 10 and we left about 10:30. I had a headache so I had taken a pain pill (which makes me feel woozy) and we were driving down a really bumpy and curvy road for 10 minutes so my stomach started doing flip flops. I decided I should then take a Dramamine in order to make it in the car for the next 2 hours. Well after about an hour I lost my breakfast. I was so embarassed! After the fact my stomach felt better and I thought it had to do with the medicine, the car ride, etc. However, when I got home I was really nauseous. I ended up sleeping the majority of the day yesterday. I tried eating twice and it would upset my stomach enough not to eat again. I thought I would feel better this morning so I got up and went to work. I was planning on taking a half day and leaving for the afternoon b/c I don't want to waste my days before the baby comes. One of my wonderful co-workers that co-teaches with me 1st hour said she would take over and then bring her 4 2nd hour students to my class so I could go ahead and leave and only take a half day. I am still really nauseous today. I have had a little bit of soup but i always feel bad after eating. I really haven't had a good meal since breakfast yesterday, which makes me nervous that the baby isn't getting nutrients. I have been drinking water though. Yesterday I was having hot/cold chills. I thought it was all b/c of the medicine yesterday but I don't think that would last this long. And I don't think it would take this long for the flu shot to give me a reaction. Who knows, maybe I just caught something. Either way I am down and out. I hope I'm better tomorrow because I HAVE to be at school.

Are you having twins?

Yes, I was asked that question today. I went with Clay to Eyemart Express to get a pair of reading glasses. It was after work and I was tired and ready for a nap. A lady there asked me when I was due and I told her "February 1st". She said, "so how far along are you?" and I said "about 6 1/2 months." She then looked at my belly and said, "oh are you having twins?" Are you kidding me? I was speechless for a few seconds before saying no. Needless to say I wasn't able to pay much attention to Clay trying on glasses because that lady kept walking by and I kept thinking about her comment. Wow! People amaze me. Of course Clay shrugged it off because men can do that. He had no idea why I was letting it bother me. Here are two conclusions that I have drawn from the comment:
1) If it was a man that would have said it, I could understand. I have had some men say things to me and I don't think they think about it nor have they been pregnant to understand how your body changes. They don't always realize their comments could be taken the wrong way. However,
2) No woman (especially if you have had kids) should be dumb enough to think that is an ok question to ask. I mean even if you suspect you say "what are you having" and if the answer "twins" comes out then great but that way you haven't completely embarassed yourself and the pregnant woman by starting with the bomb first!
Ok I'm done. I made Clay take this picture of me when I got home this afternoon. I guess you can decide for yourself. But hopefully after reading this, even if you do think I look like I am having twins, you will know better than to tell me! :)

25 weeks - Only 3 months and 10 days to go!!

It's finished!!

Our crib is finished!  And it is absolutely gorgeous!!  We just love it!  Roy is amazing and we are so so so thankful for the work he has done!!   Here are a few pics.

No, its not in the nursery yet.  However, we are making progress toward that.  We are having a garage sale this Friday and Saturday.  Right now we have garage sale stuff stacked in there.  After this weekend it will be cleared out and ready to paint.  Then we can bring in the crib and purchase the other furniture we need.  We have been waiting until the crib was finished to buy any other furniture so that we could make sure it would match.  Did you notice the blanket in the pictures?  We have decided on our bedding!!  It is "Mod Turtle" from JCPenney.  We really like the blue and brown and we kept coming back to this.  Clay is not crazy about the turtle, but he loves the colors.  He keeps saying "Don't tell people we are using turtles because we will get all kinds of goofy green turtle stuff.  Just tell them it is blue and brown."  So there ya go.  I think the color of the crib looks great with the bedding.

Thanks to all the moms for the registering suggestions!  Let me know if you think of anything else.  I will keep you posted as to when we get registered and how it went.  Well I am off to bed but I am so excited about sleeping in tomorrow!  Yeah for fall break!  Don't be too jealous of me though, remember I am going to be getting ready for a garage sale!!

Calling all moms....

My work shower is the week before Thanksgiving, which is about a month from now.  Clay and I have been talking about how we need to go and register.  We are planning to register at Target and Babies R' Us but we haven't had a chance to.  And to be honest, I'm not in a big hurry.  The thought of registering is so overwhelming to me.  I could handle registering for my wedding.  But for a baby, how do you know what to get?  I've never had a baby before so I am not completely sure what is the best stuff.  So that is where I need your help.  I need to hear some suggestions from mothers about the best or worst items to have.  You know those you MUST have this or DON'T waste your money (or someone elses.)  For example I look online at monitors, swings, bottles and how do I know which is the best product??  Also, what diapers should I use for a boy?  Anyway, if you mothers could help me out and ease my tension a little bit, I would really appreciate your suggestions!!

Proud daughter in Chicago...

Last weekend my mom and I went to Chicago for the National Conventient Store Show.  First I'll give you a brief history of why we were there.  My mom owns a convenient store and sells Hunt Brothers pizza where they make pizzas from scratch.  A few months ago Hunt Brothers chose her and two other people in the nation to do a feature on for their ad in Convenient Store Magazine.  They came and interviewed my mom and did a photo shoot.  Hunt Brothers was displaying my moms ad at the National show in Chicago.  As appreciation to her for allowing them to use her material, Hunt Brothers paid for her and I to go to the show!  That is how we ended up in Chicago.  Here is the front of the building.
Here is mom's part in the magazine.  It was blown up and hung on the wall.  They were also handing out fliers like this with quote and info.  The wording on the right side is a quote from her.  I made her take a picture next to her picture.  She was embarassed but I was so proud of her!!

Here is a close up of her picture.  Because of the flash on my camera you can't really read the writing on the right.  It says "Shelly Newton, Sooner Superette, Hinton, OK"
Everyone there treated her like royalty!  They all knew who she was because of her ad and they all wanted to meet her.  She met the president of the company, who asked her to come back and do an interview with him and the Convenient Store Magazine.  She did and was the only convenient store representative for Hunt Brothers.  They picked her out of all of their 7800 stores in the nation!!   Can you tell I'm proud?  Here we are in front of their display.

We were only there for a short period of time but we made time for some fun stuff.  Sunday night after the convention we went downtown and ate at Rainforest Cafe.

Here I am at 23 weeks!  The first picture my mom took of me was in front of an elephant.  I laughed when I thought about the irony of taking a pregnancy picture in front of an elephant!  I decided to post the one in front of the aquarium instead.
Monday morning we slept in late and then went to a local mall for a couple of hours before catching our flight home.  I was glad we got to sleep in because my mom doesn't get to rest at home.  She works way to much and it took a weekend to Chicago for her to get some rest!  It's also a good thing we had some extra sleep because our night was interrupted at 12:45 am by loud speakers announcing "There is an emergency in the building.  You must evacuate.  You can not use the elevators.  You must use the stairs."  Of course I was FREAKING out but I am the paranoid one.  My mom said she would have stayed in bed if I wouldn't have made her get ready and go outside.  Here we are all waiting outside the hotel.

Our hotel was smoke free and apparently someone was smoking inside one of the rooms and set off the alarm.  We did have to wait outside in the cold night for 20 minutes but it was better to be safe than sorry.  We had a great trip and I am so glad I got to go with her!!  I am very blessed to have a very close relationship with my mom.  We only live an hour away but we don't get to see each other that often.  It was good for us to catch up and just spend the weekend the two of us!  I am so thankful for and proud of my mom!

I am still alive....

I promise!  I have been so busy.  I have so many ideas for posts running through my head but I haven't had a chance to write about them.  We are leaving in a few minutes to head to Dallas for the OU/TX game.  I promise I will update about Chicago and the Texas trip when I get back.  Boomer Sooner!!!

Weekend trip....

My mom called yesterday and asked if I wanted to go to Chicago with her for the weekend.  For those of you who don't know, my mom owns a convenience store in Hinton, OK.  She was recently featured in an article for a convenient store magazine.  This weekend is the national convenient store food show and since she had a feature in the magazine they are sending her and a guest there for the weekend to attend the show!  They just called her yesterday so it was a last minute thing.  Anyway, we are leaving on Saturday and coming back on Monday night.  It will be a short trip, but how often do I get to go with my mom to Chicago for the weekend?!  I am a little nervous about flying (not because I am pregnant I just always get nervous when I fly) but I am excited about this opportunity for  my mom and about getting to spend the weekend with her.  Clay is leaving early early in the morning to go hunting for the weekend and my plane will leave on Saturday before he gets home so I actually won't see him until Monday night.  I will miss him (I hate being away from him) but it will be good for us each to have a  fun filled weekend.  Anyway I will be sure to take pictures so I can post them when I get back.  Yeah for Chicago!!
